Beacon Hill is an important part of Newark’s history, as the highest point in an otherwise largely flat landscape. Just as beacons helped to warn the English of invasion from the Spanish Armada in 1588, Beacon Hill played a crucial part in the Battle of Newark during the English Civil War in 1644. It is a symbol of the struggle, and is an important place in terms of mapping out England’s development: a place where our ancestors showed belief, fortitude and resistance to strive for what they believed in.
As it has had an influence in shaping the history of the area and the country, it is fitting that Beacon Hill should be an integral part of Newark and Sherwood’s plans for the future, its economy and prospects as part of an innovative, skilled workforce.
Named after the Cafferata family and Company that was an important part of Newark's industrial history. Click here to find out more.
