Work has started on the new Newark Business Innovation Centre (BIC) that is due to open in Newark in June 2007. Over £3.4M funding has been secured for this project, which is led by Newark and Sherwood District Council in partnership with East Midlands Development Agency, Nottinghamshire County Council, the Alliance SSP and the Lindum Group. The commencement of the work was celebrated with a ‘ground-breaking’ ceremony at the Beacon Hill site on Tuesday 8 August 2006.The new commercial centre will include 2,884m2 of business accommodation on two floors with four light workshops and 27 office suites together with conference and café facilities. It will be home to businesses in high-growth industries such as ICT, research and development or innovative-based companies as part of the drive to develop the “knowledge economy” for Newark and Sherwood. Newark BIC will be an integral part of a network of centres throughout the County. Other locations include the I-Centre at Mansfield, the Turbine at Worksp, Sherwood Energy Village E-Centre at Ollerton and Edwinstowe House, home of Nottinghamshire Enterprises at Edwinstowe.
